Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Modern Database Engineer to join our data team. This candidate will show a strong ability to think critically, have a strong desire for continued learning, and thrives where others hesitate. This role bridges the gap between traditional database administration and data engineering, focusing on designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable, secure, cloud-based database systems. You will manage the full lifecycle of our data platforms, automate routine tasks, and work closely with developers to ensure high availability and peak performance.

Responsibilities:
Database Engineering & Architecture: Design, build, and maintain robust relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL database systems.
Cloud Data Management: Manage cloud database environments (KurrentDBEventDB, AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, Snowflake) and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC)(CDK).
Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor database health, tune queries, and optimize schema design for maximum efficiency and scalability.
Automation & Scripting: Reduce manual effort by developing scripts and automation tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for database maintenance, patching, and backups.
Data Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing to protect sensitive data.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and manage backup/recovery strategies, replication, and failover configurations.
Collaboration: Partner with Data Engineers and Developers to integrate database solutions into application workflows and optimize data pipelines.
Data Integrity: Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to assess data integrity issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive system or process changes that eliminate recurring data defects.

Required Skills and Experience:
Experience: 3+ years in a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, or similar role, with a strong focus on modernizing legacy systems.
Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure).
Technical Skills: Expert-level SQL skills and experience with relational/NoSQL databases.
Scripting: Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python is highly preferred).
Best Practices: Understanding database design principles, normalization, and indexing strategies.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
Experience with DataOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with streaming data technologies (Kafka, Spark).
Cloud Certification (AWS Certified Database, Azure Data Engineer).
Experience with Data Visualization Tools (Power BI, Tableau)
